2017’s results set a new record, but those of 2018 have again beaten that! The college has much to be proud of in consequence. The July 2016 and January 2017 cohorts of KYUEM students have again set another new record of Cambridge A-level success last year.
The following outstanding results bear witness to the students’ achievements:
Last year we had one student who enrolled in Oxford University and eight students to Cambridge University. As far as 2019 conditional offer statistics figures are concerned, we have 2 students with offers to Oxford, and 8 students are bound for Cambridge. At a time of some uncertainty over such external issues as Brexit, maintaining high standards of success and continued placement in some of the finest universities in the world is an awesome achievement.
Impressive as these achievements are, it is also very important to recognise that KYUEM is not merely an examination factory. We practise holistic education in all that we do, ever mindful that we are training tomorrow’s leaders. Our wealth of sporting, cultural and other extracurricular activities ensure that we are deeply committed to educating the whole person. Leadership and teamwork are regarded as key components of this process and are encouraged at KYUEM via such pursuits as the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, Model United Nations, Music, Drama and a variety of solo and team sporting events. Our sports facilities include an Olympic-size swimming pool, football and rugby pitches, indoor and outdoor racquet courts and a large, multi-purpose sports hall and gymnasium.
We are equally keen to encourage adult behaviour and responsibility among our students. They have all completed SPM examination or the equivalent, and should no longer be treated as children. consequently, they are not housed in dormitories but in modern, 4-bedroomed villas, 2-bed chalets and a separate apartment block each with hot and cold water and air conditioning.
Independent learning and self-motivation are both encouraged. Private study is available in our Resource Centre, while collaborative knowledge transfer exists within study groups. Moreover, the vast majority of our very experienced teachers live on campus and are more than willing to engage with students out of hours in order to assist their progress towards University education. All teachers at KYUEM are also personal tutors, who see each of their tutees on a frequent and regular basis, to ensure their pastoral, as well as academic welfare, is being catered for.
Competitiveness is encouraged by belonging to one of four Houses – Diamond, Sapphire, Topaz and Garnet – and most sports and cultural competitions are house-based. This further develops a spirit of cooperation and commitment.
One of the lasting effects of a KYUEM education is that most of our graduates love to stay in touch with us. They join a thriving Alumni Association and via social media, they stay in contact with teachers, tutors and management long after leaving us to pursue studies and careers elsewhere. This is, we believe, one of our most profound legacies and why so many of us are proud and honoured to live and work at KYUEM. We welcome talented students with excellent academic records and outstanding extracurricular backgrounds to apply for the July 2019 intake. Applications should reach us by 21st May 2019.
The KYUEM Open Day Programme will be held on 13th and 27th April 2019 which will be starting from 9.15am until 1.00pm at its campus in Lembah Beringin. For more information, kindly contact the Marketing Department at +603-6460 1234 or visit www.kyuem.edu.my
