Hello, students sitting for SPM. The mathematics papers are right around the corner, and it’s best to be as fully prepared as possible. So there’s no harm in learning a few helpful tips to help you prepare for your exams.
Everyone needs to be as fully prepared as possible for their exam papers, and the mathematics paper is no exception. It's always good to research some studying tips to help you score in your exams. So read on for some handy tricks for you to remember and use effectively during your exams!
1. Memorise your formulas!
You should always memorise your formulas, even if they are in the examination papers. Despite formula sheets appearing in your exam papers, they will only have most of the basic formulas. Not every formula will be present in your papers.
You would not need to refer to the formula sheet provided by memorising your formulas. Also, instead of relying on the formula sheet, you wouldn't need to use it as you remember the formulas you would need to use to answer the tough questions in your exam! This should come in handy when you need to use the right formula but the formula sheet does not have it.
2. Time management!
Time is minimal during your exam, which is why you need to manage your time wisely while answering your questions. To do this, you might want to consider using this tip.
First, try skipping the questions you find pretty difficult to answer. This will help you save time instead of taking too much time to answer one question. Then, once you are done answering all the other questions, you can go back to answer that tricky question. This method is a tried and true method that has helped a lot of people in their exams, and it will certainly help you too.
3. If you have questions that you are absolutely uncertain in answering, leave them!
Some questions might be too difficult for you to answer during your exam. If you do not know how to answer the question, it’s best to leave them and focus on doing the questions you do know how to answer. It's okay to leave one or two questions unanswered if you really do not know the answer. You can make up for it by making sure you answer the questions that you know how to answer well to get full marks for them!
4. Read your questions carefully and ensure that you input the right values into your calculations!
Make sure you read and understand the questions carefully to answer the questions correctly. Be sure to use the correct values to avoid making callous mistakes when calculating. For example, you wouldn’t want to calculate area when you wanted to calculate perimeter! Mistakes like these will cost you precious marks and might be the difference in getting the A grade or the B grade.
5. Practice, practice, practice! Keep doing past-year and revision papers to stay sharp and ready!
The more you practise doing past-year questions, the more prepared you will be when facing real questions during your exam. The more you practice, the more you will be familiarised to the types of questions that you will encounter during your exam. Try doing as many SPM past-year questions as you can so that you will know how to answer those questions in the real exam. Therefore, ensure you practice a lot, so your mind will be sharp, and you will take on the exam questions with ease.
