Nilai University conferred diploma and degree certificates to its students last 22 August 2015. Among them were 101 FELDA scholars, the largest number of FELDA scholars. Many graduated in the fields of aircraft maintenance engineering, nursing, medical laboratory technology, agriculture management, tourism, hotel management and culinary arts.
Nilai U celebrated other firsts with their first valedictorian from the nursing department this year - Michelle Foh Ming Yee. The 22-year-old from Miri, Sarawak was also the High Achiever's Scholarship recipient. In her speech, Michelle described the challenges and joys of her undergraduate studies at Nilai, thanking the university staff as well. "Our campus has provided us with not only a place to learn but a home and a second family."
The graduation was also the first ceremony attended by Nilai's new Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Sothi Rachagan. Prof Sothi, who gave a rousing speech, congratulated the students in their overall achievements and thanked parents for being confident in the university for nurturing and educating their children towards becoming leaders in their respective fields.
Chancellor of Nilai University Prof Emeritus Tengku Dato' Shamsul Bahrin also rejoiced in the event and reflected upon the developments within the university as well. According to him, Nilai University was one of the first five private colleges to run the 3+0 programmes, and continues to collaborate with institutions such as the Oxford Brookes University. Among their partnership with other institutions include Kingston University in the field of Engineering. This is specifically in their popular course, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, which saw 19 graduands in the advanced diploma (Bachelor with Kingston) course and 28 distinction students and 75 merit graduands.
Quoting Richard Templar in "The Rules of Life", the Chancellor encouraged students to seize every opportunity - good and bad, as the next phase in life will bring news sets of challenges and wisdom.
This year's post-convocation events saw graduates celebrate their success with specially set up tents at their respective faculties, with family members, friends and lecturers.
Nilai University was established in 1997 and has received the Setara 5 rating by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) since 2012. For more information, please visit their website or contact 06-8502338 / 07-2262336.
