As many receive their Bahagian Pengurusan Kemasukan Pelajar (UPU) results, the reaction can be divided into two distinct categories. One group stand with their hands raised in the air with joy, while the other bury their faces in their palms. If you did not get the course you wanted or were outright rejected, there is still hope – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s (UKM) International Degree Programme. Here are five reasons you should apply.
While it may be termed the UKM International Degree Programme, local students may apply. Since 2017, UKM has opened its International Degree Programme to Malaysians as well, permitting them to join students from various countries in what is truly a multicultural, multiracial classroom.
Yes, you read that right. The biggest draw of UKM’s International Degree Programme is that students can apply directly without having to go through UPU. This is a second chance at getting your first choice of study.
Remember what we said about snagging your first choice? The UKM International Degree Programme offers 55 courses across 12 fields. And yes, before you ask, mainstays like medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, education, engineering and law are included alongside other less popular but no less prestigious courses such as plant biotechnology, geology, actuarial science and more. Click here for a detailed list of courses offered.
Did you want to apply to your dream course but found your results just shy of the stringent entry requirements set by UPU? UKM’s International Degree Programme has lower entry requirements. While they are by no means lenient, this may just mean that you can now enrol in the course you’ve been pining for since you were a child. Click here to find out more.
As the UKM International Degree Programme represents an alternative route, many would assume that classes would be separate from those who gained admission via UPU. However, this assumption is incorrect. Just as it was in 2017, students attend classes together and graduate with the same degree, regardless of their route of entry to UKM.
As with any new programme, doubts may linger for more than a second or two due to the uncertainty shrouding the course. Except, this isn’t a new programme – both local and international students have graduated from it.Arveen Kaur, a graduate of UKM’S MBA programme, says, “Enrolling in UKM’s Graduate School of Business was certainly one of the best decisions I made.”Millatina Urfana, who graduated from the same programme, echoes Arveen’s sentiments: “Through the practical projects and extracurricular activities, the lecturers empower students to go beyond their limits.”
