One of the most well-known university rankings has derived their highly anticipated 2019 Asia University Rankings. That's right, Times Higher Education (THE), the UK's leading publication in all matters regarding higher education, has finally released their Asia University Rankings 2019. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the National University of Singapore (NUS) retains its place atop the rankings, amid intense competition, most notably from China. Two of their representatives, Tsinghua University and Peking University occupy second and third spots respectively. How did Malaysia fare? The performance of our local universities results that were published by Times Higher Education bodes well for the future of our higher education landscape. University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia's perennial over-achiever, broke into the top 50 for the first time, securing the 46th spot on the list. Two private universities jostled for the next spot, with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) eking into the top 100 at number 99, and Universiti Teknologi Petronas at joint 114th. Rounding up the Malaysian representatives were Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (129), Universiti Putra Malaysia (142), Universiti Sains Malaysia (162), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (171), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (175) and Universiti Utara Malaysia (301-350).
Japan was the most represented country on the prestigious list with 89 universities, with China following closely behind with 63. The Times Higher Education (THE) rankings take into consideration the following when rating institutions:
