TAR UMT students emerged as the Champion team in the inaugural Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) Bootcamp Competition organised by Jabil Global Business Center. Howard Teh Hong Piow, Ch’ng Wei Ken, Tan Yeong Lim and Tan Khai Chin who are pursuing their Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Software Systems Development were named as Champions at the competition held in Penang on 13 June 2023.
In the competition, the students had to do a presentation showcasing their skills and knowledge in SAP processes. The students were given a few keywords related to the SAP process, such as quality inspection, goods receipt, etc. They had to arrange those terms in the correct sequence and explain the entire process from manufacturing until delivery of goods to customers, in their presentation to the competition judges. Its aim is to test the student’s proficiency in utilising SAP software and finding innovative solutions to business problems.
“We were encouraged to participate in this challenge by our tutor, Mr Desmund Chau Guan Hin, who is a Programme Leader of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FOCS), Penang Branch. We took part in the competition to gain valuable experience and learn aspects that go beyond the university curriculum. We saw the competition as an opportunity to enhance our SAP expertise,”said Khai Chin.
When asked how they worked as a team to garner the win in the competition, Howard Teh said: “As a team, we divided the tasks equally and made sure we had open lines of communication to hear everyone’s opinions and viewpoints. By regularly communicating and discussing, we were able to work together effectively and make informed decisions as a group. We also supported and motivated each other throughout the competition.”
He continued with some words of encouragement to other TARCians. “Never hesitate to participate in this type of event. It presents an excellent opportunity to expand your knowledge, gain valuable experience and challenge yourself in an environment that is competitive. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and learning and be prepared to put in the necessary effort and dedication,” he said.
In addition to the Champion spot, Ashley Chew Kai Wenn, Ong Kuan Lin, Lee Khoon Hong and Ng Ratchai studying the Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Data Science obtained the Second Runner-Up position in the competition.
