What is better than studying abroad or studying locally? Having the best of both worlds! While studying abroad boasts many benefits such as cultural exchange and (potentially) more career opportunities, sometimes one cannot help but long for the comfort of one’s home country. On the other hand, studying locally probably would not give you the level of exposure the rest of the world has to offer in terms of practice.
One such university offering a medicine degree that allows you to study BOTH abroad and locally is RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus (formerly Penang Medical College) or, RUMC for short.

Located in George Town, Penang, RUMC is one of Malaysia’s leading university in Medicine. Their medical degree programme is offered in such a way that for the first two and a half years of the programme, you would be in Ireland to undertake biomedical and early clinical sciences studies in RCSI or UCD. After completing the pre-clinical studies, you would return to Malaysia for another two and a half years where you would complete extensive clinical training.
The programme would allow students to experience the best of both worlds while receiving a world-class education and graduating with a medical degree from the National University of Ireland (NUI).

Ireland is known internationally for its consistently high standards in education, and one of its most popular subjects among international students is medicine. Many people are choosing to study medicine in Ireland due to the country’s investment in education lately.
RCSI and UCD are two of the most prestigious medical universities in the country, and as students, you would be experiencing some of the best campus facilities in a culturally diverse environment. On top of that, you would also gain access to more than 130 student societies, including the Malaysian Medical Society among others.
Upon returning to Penang for the second half of the programme, you would be exposed to a clinical programme delivered by an expert clinical faculty, with more than 35 professors and lecturers from various medical backgrounds such as medicine, surgery, psychiatry, gynaecology, paediatrics and more. You would also benefit from one-to-one mentorship and modern innovative teaching styles. The programme is also recognised and accredited by both the Irish and Malaysian medical councils, implementing a rigorous and immersive approach to training young doctors.
