On 20th October 2023, KYUEM’s batch 26.0 hosted their Cultural Performance Night 2023 (CPN) presenting a night of fun that emphasised unity amongst diversity. The CPN celebrated the diverse and rich cultures in Malaysia.
The night started sharp at 8 pm at the Great Hall. The festivities began once the Principal, Mr. David Vroege accompanied by the Senior Leadership Team took their seats in the hall. The first agenda of the night was a speech by the principal, followed by the recitation of prayers and a welcoming speech by the Director, Ishwaar Alagesan. The night continued by showcasing the various cultures in Malaysia through the talents of the KYUEM students. There was a multitude of performances including but not exclusive to singing, traditional dances, and traditional instrumental performances. Students of batches 25.0 and 26.0 were seen swaying and singing along to the melodious and rhythmic songs. All in all, it is safe to say that the Cultural Performance Night was a great success.
The primary objective of Cultural Performance Night was to cultivate a sense of community engagement, wherein junior students actively contributed to the preparations for this event. Furthermore, CPN offers students a unique platform to showcase and nurture their talents. This opportunity not only bolsters their self-confidence but also facilitates social interaction. The central theme of the evening, titled “ Jewels of the Past: Treasure Unearthed,” not only symbolised the harmonious unity of Malaysia’s diverse cultures but also had special relevance for the four houses at KYUEM: Sapphire, Diamond, Topaz, and Garnet, as they came together as a cohesive group. This theme was subtly interwoven throughout the event, with hints presented through the colours representing these gems and discreetly embedded in the actor’s’s dialogues.
In conclusion, the Cultural Performance Night (CPN) proved to be a remarkable event that not only celebrates our rich tapestry of cultures but also fosters essential elements of community life. Although the event itself was brief, the benefits like enhanced interactions among students and a strengthened school community spirit made the event worthwhile. With the Cultural Performance Night’s unmistakable significance in mind, this event should be retained for years to come.
