It has been a long way since national independence and we are starting to see our fruits. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings for 2018 has named five Malaysian universities in the top 300 best universities in the world. Now that is something to shout about.

According to New Straits Times, QS research director Ben Sowter said: “Seven Malaysian universities improved their scores for QS’s Academic Reputation metric, while eight improved their scores for QS’s Employer Reputation metric.” This shows that Malaysian universities are slowly gaining prominence in the field of education and improving their reputation among the global academic community and the world’s employers.

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) leaped its way from being no. 330 to 264 in the world rankings.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) rose from the 288th place to 253rd place.

Rising up 72 places is Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) who was ranked 302 and now 230.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) stands at 229 currently when it was no. 270 last year. That is quite a big leap.

And our all-time favourite university, Universiti Malaya (UM) reached its highest rank since 2004 which shot up from 133 to 114 on the latest QS World University Rankings.
