You read that right.
Ong Yong Xun, a 20-year-old pre-university student, built an app to help other Malaysian students prepare for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). Why? Because he understood the struggles of studying for such a big test from his own experience!
In just 6 months, Ong created the app from scratch – he relied on both Google and Youtube for coding tutorials as well as referring to Stack Overflow, an online forum for coders.
Ong primarily used Ionic 4 and Angular 8 as platforms to build the Jomstudy app.
Jomstudy is a free accessible revision app for SPM students, a gift from Ong to the students nationwide.
The app consists of notes for various subjects including Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Islamic Studies, and Moral Education. Ong also included notes for elective subjects such as Accounting, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Chinese, Economics, Geography, and Physics!

What’s even more amazing is that the notes are provided by Ong and his ex-classmates, as well!

The app had over 1,000 downloads during the first week of its release!
But it’s only the beginning, according to the young genius.
He plans on expanding the notes to cover just about every SPM subject under the KSSM syllabus (a switch from this year's KBSM curriculum) with the help of several schoolteachers and ex-SPM candidates.
“I want to be an Entrepreneur!” Ong claimed.
It has been his dream since he was fifteen years old and JomStudy is his first successful project after multiple failed attempts at building a business.
In creating this app, Ong is not only helping students nationwide in their SPM preparation, but he is truly embodying his life-motto: "Never stop seeking discomfort."
