Delegates from REPSOL Malaysia’s partner universities and the twenty studentsfrom geosciences and engineering disciplines who were awarded scholarships
As part of a growing and continuing commitment to provide opportunities to tertiary education students in becoming captains of industries in the Oil and Gas industry, REPSOL Oil & Gas Malaysia Limited today held the 2019 REPSOL Scholarship Awards Presentation Ceremony at the InterContinental hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
A total of twenty students from the geosciences and engineering disciplines were awarded scholarships by Repsol Malaysia. The recipients were Gunavarshini A/P Ganesan, Syazana Afiqah Binti Shamsuddin, Ku Azeem Bin Ku Zen, Leong Mun Cong, Evans Goh, Richmond Pillai A/L K.Elkes, Muhammad Fadzlih Bin Baharudin, Joshua Bin Faizan, Ng Xin Pei, Thivyalaxmi A/P Mahendaran, Ugeenesh A/L Gopal, Nurul Afifah Binti Mohd Ridzuan, Adila Fateha Binti Abdul Mudtalib, Cheok Pei Ying, Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Wahab, Muhammad Firdaus Bin Abdullah, Kelvin Wee Rui Hong, Amirah Binti Arezudin, Muhamad Zhaferie Bin Zainuabidin and Ganga Thevi A/P Arul Kumaran.
The scholarship program supports REPSOL Malaysia’s objective of helping to ensure a qualified workforce in engineering and geosciences disciplines in future years. REPSOL Malaysia emphasizes workforce development as being one of the highest priorities. Growing and nurturing talent is at the forefront of REPSOL Malaysia in identifying the best young individuals with the right skills to pursue a career in the Oil and Gas industry.
The REPSOL scholarship provides financial assistance to students ranging from RM 30,000 to RM 41,000 per course/program covering tuition fees, living allowances and purchase of a computer. The program also includes practical training & internships opportunities as well.
Since 2008, the REPSOL Scholarship Program under REPSOL Malaysia has provided scholarships to local students pursuing tertiary education in Malaysia. The program complements the government’s goal of encouraging students to pursue tertiary education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by producing technically competent local graduates that fulfil the demands of the industry.

As of date, REPSOL Malaysia has disbursed scholarships amounting to more than RM4 million since the inception of the scholarship award programme. A total of 118 students pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) have benefitted from the award.
REPSOL Malaysia also fortified the programme by signing a new Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to mark its third cycle to further include a new partner university – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).
REPSOL Malaysia’s Director of Business Unit, Jorge Milathianakis, who spoke at the press conference said that “This scholarship programme started a decade ago with a vision as education is one of the core pillars of REPSOL’s Corporate Responsibility. Acknowledging the importance of Science and Technology education or better known as STEM, our company will continue to make an effort to grow our own talent and nurture interest in these subjects through such scholarships. REPSOL takes on the challenge of reinventing the future of energy every single day, and our Digitalization Transformation program is the cornerstone of this change. We want to be more agile, more efficient, and to respond better to new scenarios, technologies and ways of working.”
He further elaborated that, “Such collaboration is essential to set the right expectations for both; the industry and the institutions. I hope that through such partnerships with REPSOL, we can look forward to a future where we can take onboard fresh graduates from Malaysian academic institutions with much confidence that they will be the right resource to help us operate successfully and become our human capital and asset.”
