Pharmacy is among the popular courses taken by Malaysian students today. It is among the areas in healthcare industry that is in need of more talents. Driving the demand for more pharmacists is the country's ageing population and growing medical tourism. Currently, the pharmacist-patient ratio is 1:2,947. The target is to improve this to 1:2,000 by 2016.
CUCMS started its operation in mid-2005 and took in the first batch of MBBS and Bachelor of Pharmacy students in December 2005. CUCMSoffers Foundation Programmes in Medicine/Pharmacy and Allied Sciences and Bachelor Programmes in Medicine, Pharmacy, Traditional & Complementary Medicine, and Allied Health Sciences. CUCMSoperates from its main campuses located at Jalan Teknokrat 3 as the Main Campus.
AIMST University, founded in 2001, is a private university established by the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED), the educational arm of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), a component party of the Barisan Nasional Government in Malaysia. Located in the north Malaysian State of Kedah Darul Aman, the university is the brainchild of YB Dato' Seri S. Samy Vellu, President of the MIC.
Monash University Malaysia has established strong links with industry and government. The Malaysian the campus has established the Brain Research Institute Monash Sunway (BRIMS) and jointly with Monash University, Australia established a multidisciplinary health and demographic surveillance site, the South East Asian Community Observatory (SEACO).
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus opened doors in 2000 and become the first campus of British university in the world. Pharmacy programmes at the Malaysia Campus are taught in English and students are awarded a degree from The University of Nottingham irrespective of whether the degree was pursued in Malaysia or UK. The degrees are accredited by General Pharmaceutical Council, UK.
Asia Metropolitan University (AMU) was previously known as Masterskill University College of Health Sciences (MUCH). The name change from MUCH to AMU was officially approved by the Ministry of Higher Education on 2012. AMU offers over 32 different types of programme. Its pharmacy programme has been duly endorsed and approved by the Malaysian Pharmacy Board.
MAHSA (Malaysian Allied Health Science Academy) University was established in 2005. Since then MAHSA has reaped awards such as the Doctorjob’s Award for Most Popular College/University for Nursing in the year 2009 and NAPEI Award for University and University College Large Category for two consecutive years in a row (2009 & 2010). Its pharmacy programme received its full MQA accreditation in 2009.
SEGi University Group is a private university in Malaysia with more than 27,000 students at its five university and college campuses. SEGihas more than 300 Multi National Corporations and Government offices as partners, through this SEGi is able to provide internships and job placements for students. Such programme is valuable because this enables students to understand the corporate world and to put their theoretical knowledge into practice.
Management & Science University ranked top five among 25 private universities in Malaysia by Ernst & Young, an international audit agency through the 2009 Establishment Audit conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. This has, to a large extent, demonstrated the versatility of the programmes offered at MSU.
