The Kancil Science Competition is more than just a test of knowledge—it's an invitation to explore, challenge, and engage with science at an advanced level. Since its inception in 2018, this competition has drawn over 75,000 students from nearly 3,500 schools across Malaysia, each embarking on a journey of scientific discovery. This competition serves as a crucial stepping stone for students to be selected for the national team and represent Malaysia in the prestigious International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2024.
KYUEM’s Students’ Dedication and Success
Despite the challenging schedule, 16 KYUEM students took up the Kancil Science Competition challenge in 2024. Even with the competition date coinciding with the last week of their Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) exams—a rigorous seven-week testing period—they were undeterred. Their willingness to take on an additional multiple-choice paper in biology, physics, and chemistry demonstrates their dedication to pursuing excellence and growth beyond formal academic assessment.
The KYUEM students competed in the Delta category, which is open to Form 4, Form 5, Form 6, and Pre-University students. The format of this category includes 30 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 60 minutes, testing their knowledge across biology, physics, and chemistry. The competition’s strict time constraint and depth of questions allow students to showcase both their knowledge and problem-solving skills in a high-stakes environment.

3 Silver Awards
7 Bronze Awards
1 Honourable Mention
This level of achievement is significant, given the strict award criteria. Only the top 10% of participants in each category are awarded Gold, Silver, or Bronze, while the next 40% receive Honourable Mention certificates. The remaining participants, making up 50%, earn certificates of participation, which alone is a testament to their courage and willingness to compete.
KYUEM students' accomplishments at the Kancil Science Competition showcase their dedication, resilience, and passion for science. The institution is truly impressed with their efforts and know that they will continue to be inspired to push the boundaries of their knowledge and skills.
