Enjoy a night of soulful and rhythmic mix with the "EAST MEETS WEST - A Fusion Music Odyssey" concert presented by Brickfields Asia College (BAC) and Swara Community Arts Center. This will be a music performance involving the likes of Sitar genius Samuel J. Dass, the brainchild of this event, and tabla maestro Prakash Kandasamy.
The other musicians who are part of this group are Kesavan on the Flute, Kirubakaran on the Gatham and Thavil, Eliezer Enan on Guitar, Rohnie Tan on Violin, Jazlan Norman on Bass Guitar, Ustaz E Ali Umar on Rebab, Selvendrrah Krishnan on Cajon and Dholak, Gregory Dennis on Keyboards, Dhivager M Yogasingam on Effects and Bhavani Logeswaran on Vocals. Together they collaborate and hold a vast amount of musical talent extended over a multitude of years.
The compositions that will be rendered will extend a wide range of ragas in scales and rhythm patterns that will leave audiences mesmerised. One of the songs include Nothing is Forever, a stirring arrangement dedicated to the memory of one of Swara’s students, Yuvanes. Although composed before his tragic passing, the depth of this moving piece will likely shed a tear or two. The captivating ragas and rhythmically intensive musical elaborations composed by Sam and rendered by SwarAsia is hoped to be the beginning of more collaborations and performances.
SwarAsia which will also undertake a roadshow to Penang, Malacca and Johor in the months of October–December 2015. They have also been invited to perform in four cities namely Rotorua, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in New Zealand in the month of November 2015.
