Chan Kien Yew, studying the Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) in Software Engineering clinched the On 19 September 2024, in anticipation for the release of The Story of TARCians, a special docudrama about TAR UMT, the University organised a soft launch for the film, which has been in production since 2023 and is set to be released by the end of 2024. In addition to the announcement of the film’s release, the official soundtrack and music video for the film were also unveiled. The song, titled ‘Laman Song,’ was recorded and produced by the band “YiWanLingYi ????,” which consists of three alumni, Joe, Vong, and Chee How. Following the official premiere of the music video, the alumni performed the song live together with the TAR UMT Choir.

In his address during the soft launch, Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, Chairman of TAR UMT’s Board of Governors and Alumni Council, highlighted the significance of bringing the film to a national audience. "The Story of TARCians is ultimately one of the important stories of nation-building for our beloved country. This is why we are aiming for the film to be shown in cinemas nationwide, so Malaysians can also watch and appreciate the story of TARCians," he said.
Following the soft launch, TAR UMT will also be hosting exclusive private screenings for all its staff and students across all its campuses from 25 November to 1 December 2024. The private screenings aim to encourage TARCians to view the film and learn about the University which they are a part of, on a deeper level. Following the private screenings, the much-anticipated gala premiere of The Story of TARCians will be held at the end of the year, followed by the film’s nationwide screening.
