According to a the Annual Salary Survey 2016 from the Charted Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), qualified accounting professionals can earn as much as RM186,000 annually.
A report from The Rakyat Post says that students pursuing their CIMA qualifications are earning an average salary of RM6,000 - RM7,000 per month. Professionals with such qualifications are said to earn 75% more than those with only tertiary qualifications as they are considered high value assets to businesses and financial institutions in Malaysia and South East Asia.
These professionals have acquired the needed skills for a complex work environment and possess the abilities to contribute positively to the decision-making process, impacting short, medium and long term critical business decisions.
The survey has also revealed that qualified members of CIMA and students in Malaysia have a positive outlook regarding their chances of career development and salary increment; up to 99% of these professionals expect to have higher salaries within the next 12 months. The rate of increase of members' salaries is expected to be at 7.2% of their current pay, while students of CIMA are anticipating an average rise of 11%.
Besides basic salaries, members in Malaysia receive bonuses that can be as high as 20% of their annual salary as of 2016.
According to CIMA's official website the organisation has established a partnership with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and has introduced CIMA-MIA joint programmes to provide a fast and effective path for MIA members to obtain the needed professional qualifications for Malaysian accountants provided by CIMA. Malaysian accountants can become members of CIMA by successfully completing a determined set of exams and members may be awarded two global designations: Associate Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
CIMA has also established a partnership with TalentCorp and created the CIMA-TalentCorp employability programme where first year college students are the primary target. Serious students have a unique chance to develop additional skills desired by businesses and potential employers, which would enhance the employability chances of the student upon graduation.
CIMA has also built a bridge with Malaysian public and private universities where specialised programmes are offered to students allowing students to combine the best of university education and CIMA qualifications. This partnership will facilitate the path for students to join CIMA in the future, improve their chances of employability, and increase the likelihood of earning higher salaries.
